$700 Million Google Play Store Settlement: Who Gets Paid and How Much?

A class action lawsuit was filed against Google LLC some time ago, claiming the company limited alternative billing systems for developers and restricted consumers to Google Play billing, leading to a surge in in-app purchases and in-app purchase accounts, affecting millions of Android users.

To resolve this matter, Google LLC has now agreed to a $700 million settlement. If you’re one of those who’s ever purchased an app from the Play Store or used Google Play billing for in-app purchases, you could also receive a portion from this fund.

In this article, we discuss the Google Play Store $700 Million Antitrust Settlement in detail. By reading this article, you’ll be able to check whether you’re eligible to get the payout, how much you’re likely to receive, when you can expect to get the payout, and much more.

Who is eligible?

To receive a payout from this settlement, you must have purchased an app from the Play Store between August 16, 2016, and September 30, 2023, or used Google Play billing for in-app purchases.

Additionally, your address in your Google payments profile is in one of the 50 United States, D.C., Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands. If you fulfill both these requirements, then it is certain that you will receive a payout from this settlement.

What is required to do?

You don’t need to do anything to receive your share of the settlement funds. Payments are being sent directly to eligible individuals’ PayPal or Venmo accounts and will be sent to the same email address you used to purchase the app or make the in-app purchase.

If you do not have a PayPal or Venmo account with the email address used for the in-app purchase, you should create one as soon as possible to avoid any problems receiving payment. If you do not have access to that email address, you will be able to choose a supplementary payment option.

The option to receive supplemental payments from this settlement is not yet available; it is likely that this option will become available after processing of automatic payments. To stay updated in this regard, you are requested to regularly visit the settlement portal.

How much will be received?

Each class member in this settlement will receive a minimum of $2. Furthermore, the amount will be proportionately based on user spending between 2016 and 2023, with higher spending resulting in a higher payout.

How much payment you will receive through this settlement service depends on how much you have spent. If the amount given by you to your husband is $500, then in this situation the amount you will receive will be more than this amount, whether it is $550 or $600.
