What are the 2026 SSI payment rates?
The 2026 payment rates for the Supplemental Security Income are announced. The maximum you can get as a single is $994, and the same for the couple is $1,491. For each essential person, there is an additional benefit of $498.
The SSI amount you can get from these benefits depends on your living status and countable income. If you have unearned income, the first $20 is exempted, and then the benefit amount is fully reduced.
If you have earned income, the first $65 is totally exempted. If you don’t have any unearned income, its exemption is increased by $20, i.e., the first $85 isn’t counted. And the amount after that is reduced by half.
Let’s understand it by an example: as a single individual, you have unearned income of $220 and earned income of $265. The amount you can get every month is [$994 – ($220 – 20) – (($265 – $65) ÷ 2)]. i.e., $694.
What if the 2026 SSI payment isn’t received on time?
The SSA sends the SSI payment on time without any delay, and the direct deposit and paper check are usually received on time. The direct deposit may be delayed by 72 hours because of a technical error, and the paper check may be delayed by a week because of workload, so give that much time to receive it.
Even after waiting for the required time, if you don’t get your payment. You should get in touch with the Social Security Administration to know the reason why you haven’t yet received the benefit. They will explain the reason and may ask you to provide documents.
